=Dick said, "Look at this little red boot. Is it =Billy's?" "No, that isn't =Billy's boot," said =Pete. "His boots are black." "I guess someone in our neighborhood lost it," said =Dick. "I'll take the boot to my house. Maybe someone will come along and ask about it." Soon =Jane came home from school with an animal book. She showed it to =Dick. "Someone in our neighborhood lost this book," =Jane said. "I found it on my way home from school." Dick said, "Maybe someone will come along and ask about it." But no one came to ask about the things =Dick and =Jane had found. "What a fine train," said Jane! "Where is the =Firebird going?" Dick said, "Here, there, anywhere! Which way do you want to go? This train stops anywhere you like." "I'll ride to the next town," said Jane. =TimWing helped her into a car, and the =Firebird went on its way. Soon the train slowed down. =Tim called, "All out for =SpringTown!" =Jane got out at =SpringTown. =Tom and =Susan got in. Then on went the =Firebird. Next =Tim called, " =NewTown!" =RosaCruz got in there. All over the neighborhood went the =Firebird. It stopped here. It stopped there. Children got in. Children got out. "Hello there, =Joe," called =BobWills! "Can you go to the park and play ball this morning?" "Yes," said =JoeMarch," but I have some work to do first." =Bob said, "I'll come back as soon as I take =Mother's things home to her. I'll be glad to help you with the work. Then we can go to the park and play." Soon =Bob was back at =Joe's house. "What can I do to help," asked =Bob? =Joe said, "Just one thing. You can help me move this big box. I will call one, two three. When I call three, let's both try to move the box." "It will be easy for both of us to move it," said =Bob. "Boys," called Mrs =Fine! "Did you ring my bell just now?" =Pete said, "No, Mrs =Fine. =Jack and I are on our way to school." "Dear me," said Mrs =Fine! "Someone rings my bell. But no one is here when I come out." =Jack said, "Maybe someone is playing a trick on you, Mrs =Fine. After school, =Pete and I will help you. We will stay in your yard and watch your house. If someone rings your bell, we will tell you. Mrs =Fine said, "Thank you, boys. I'll be glad to have your help." One morning =Jack and =Jim went over to =TaroKoda's house. =Taro had something to show them. "How do you like my fish," he asked? =Jack said, "It's a kite! Where did you get it, =Taro?" "My father and I made it," said =Taro. "Let's go to the park and try it out. Come on!" As soon as the boys got to the park, =Taro began to run with his new kite. "Watch," he said! "Watch me make this fish fly!" Up went the kite over the boys' heads. =Jack said, "Look at it go! Look at that big yellow fish fly!" All at once =Taro fell over a stone. He let go of the kite, and it got hooked in a tree. =JohnBear and his brother =Bill had work to do in their new home. They had to clean up their room. =John said, "I guess we had better put our toys away first." Soon after the boys began to work, they heard a noise outside. =Bill turned to the window and looked out. "There's a truck out there," he said. "Two men are getting out of it." =John hurried to the window. "Look," said =Bill! "One of the men is going way up high." =John said, "He is going to put in a new light. He uses his truck to get up to the street light. There's a lot of wind this morning. It must be hard to stay up so high in all this wind. But that man is used to working up high on his truck." "More snow fell last night," Mr =Green told =Jack and =Don. "It's time for me to go to work. But first I'll shovel our front walk down to the sidewalk. You boys can shovel the sidewalk." Mr =Green got the snow shovel and cleaned off the front steps. Then he began to shovel the front walk. "How will your father get to work," =Don asked =Jack? "Can he take his car in all that snow?" Jack said, "On a day like this he takes the train. That is the best way for him to go. He will leave his car at home until the street is cleaned off. A truck with a big shovel on it will come along soon. It will clean the snow from the street." "I can't wait to tell everybody about our visit," said =Nancy. "Why didn't we go home by plane, =Mother? Then we could be there today." "Oh, =Nancy," laughed Mrs =Coats! "You know that you and =Don wanted to ride on a train. This is a long trip. We will be on the train two nights. Don said, "I know the first thing I'm going to do when I get back home. I'm going to find something for my turtle to live in. I had better take a look at him now. Where did we put his box, =Nancy?" "I don't see it," said =Nancy. "We each have a snowman box, but I don't see the little box." =Don said, "Let's look under things. That box must be here somewhere." Old Mrs =Glad was always happy. She had a fine house. She had many friends. She had a beautiful hat with six red apples on it. Mrs =Glad always put on her hat when she went out. But one morning the old woman could not find it. She looked in every box. She looked under every chair and under her bed. But she did not find her hat. For the first time Mrs =Glad was sad. Her hat with the six red apples on it was lost! One Saturday morning a painter came to paint Mr =Hook's fence. The painter put six cans of paint in the back yard. Then he turned to Mr =Hook. "I see you are working on some kind of new machine," said the painter. "What kind it is?" "A wind machine," answered Mr =Hook. The painter looked surprised. He asked Mr =Hook, "What can you do with your wind machine?" Mr =Hook answered, "I can blow things with it. But I don't know what to make it blow. Can you think of something?" "I'll be glad to try," said the painter. "A machine that blows is no good if you can't find any use for it." =GrandmotherPig and =JollyLittlePig had an old apple tree in their garden. One day after a rain =JollyLittlePig was playing in the water under the tree. As he splashed about an apple fell down near him. "I wish I had an apple pie," he said. "I'll bake apple pies for dinner," said =GrandmotherPig. "But first I'll go to the store and buy some things." She got her money, and off she went. =JollyLittlePig stayed home to play and splash some more. Soon =RedCow and her baby came past and looked over the garden fence. "What beautiful apples," said =RedCow to her baby! "Just smell them! Let's pick five or six for our lunch."
